Burton Minecraft Club will meet after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:00pm
This club is for grades 6th-12th with only 20 seats available. Students must maintain the same grade eligibility as sports to participate. There is a $40 club fee and after school charges apply if the student is not picked up at 5pm. Mr. Puckett is the club sponsor.
Students will use Minecraft to learn various subjects areas. Projects will vary, one project will have the students research, plan and build the Parthenon of ancient Greece, when building is complete, students will measure the volume of the structure. Another project has students creating a colony based on U.S. History: New England Colonies, Middle Colonies, and Southern Colonies. The educational version of Minecraft keeps the open world feel, but adds modifications to the game that allows students to do a lot more, like build a computer, and program the computer to run the in game nuclear power plant that powers the city. Here at Burton we are using Minecraft’s Galacticraft plugin. With this plugin students will learn the importance of air and how to ration it while they explore different planets in order to create sustainable life. Also students will get there hands on Redstone which shows them how code and signals work.
